Magical Charity Dinner

Merlin's Magic Wand, 10th February 2012

Last Thursday on 2nd February Merlin’s Magic Wand hosted a “Magical Charity Dinner” at Madame Tussauds in London. The evening event was a resounding success with the 350 guests digging deep to help raise just under £80,000 for Merlin’s Magic Wand. The evening involved a three course dinner followed by an auction which offered the opportunity to bid on some unique lots. To end the evening Misha B, (who made it to the semi-finals in X Factor) came along for a surprise performance.

On arrival, guests were welcomed with Canapés and Champagne in A List Party. This was followed by a chance to view the 4D cinema screening of Marvel before entering the World Stage. Once all the guests were settled at their tables, a short speech was given about Merlin’s Magic Wand encouraging the guests to dig deep and donate throughout the evening. During the course of the evening a raffle was held aswell as other fundraising games. These alone raised an amazing £9,400. At intervals a short, emotional film was shown to the guests about a young boy who had been seriously injured as a child who has been helped by Merlin’s Magic Wand, which clearly helped the guests to realise the impact Merlin’s Magic Wand can have on a child and their family.

 

All guests were in high spirits by the time the auction begun. The hosts for the evening did a fantastic job of keeping the guests entertained and bids streaming in. Some amazing lots such as two tickets to the Strictly Come Dancing Final in Blackpool 2012 and a luxury Italian break for two were presented on the night so there was no difficulty in gaining the guests interest. In total, £56K was raised from just 12 lots.

 

After the auction, Misha B was welcomed onto the stage where she gave a stunning and memorable performance. The atmosphere within the World Stage was electric. Throughout her five song set including a cover version of  ‘Rolling in the Deep’ and the Tina Turner classic ‘Rolling on the River’. In between songs, she made dedications to the families who have been helped by Merlin’s Magic Wand.
